As part of developing our liaison services within UHL wehave funding for a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner post within the olderpersons component of the Mental Health Liaison Services.
The team is based in the Leicester Royal Infirmary andprovide assessments for over 65s presenting in the acute medical setting withprimary or co-morbid mental health problems. We offer an urgentassessment service to people attending the Emergency Departments in times ofmental health crisis, and an assessment and liaison service to the medicalwards across the 3 UHL sites. The service operates 9am-5pm seven days a week.
The Mental Health Liaison Service experiences a high numberof referrals which can be complex and challenging. This provides an excellentopportunity to enhance your practice and develop your nursing skills.
We wouldrequire an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced RMN, OT or social worker withrelevant post registration experience. You would work as part of the establishedteam and would need to demonstrate flexibility and a commitment to highstandards of patient care. You will need to be able to independently andconfidently complete mental health assessments and develop formulations.
Main duties of the job
You should have excellent communications skills and theability to work alone and as part of a team. We are proud of ourmulti-disciplinary team approach, providing holistic mental and physicalhealthcare.
The team has close working partnerships with Geriatricians,UHL wards and secondary mental health care. There is an expectation that youwould provide some education and teaching regarding mental health issues, toother staff.
In order to be considered for these posts - you will havealready gained experience in mental health nursing within an acute setting(in-patient, crisis team) and have robust and sound clinical assessment anddecision-making skills including the ability to prioritise your workload whilstmaintaining a degree of flexibility to accommodate competing demands of theservice when they arise. You will have an up-to-date knowledge of national andlocal policies. Furthermore the ability to meet local Trust targets in relationto quick response times is essential. The post requires excellent communicationskills both written and verbal and the ability to work in a dynamic and busyenvironment. As always, we expect decision-making to be made in collaborationwith our service users and carers with a view to facilitating treatment in theleast restrictive environment.
