As the acting Ward Manager you will contribute to the smooth operational running of the ward, acting as a role model for junior team members and supporting the development and delivery of a high standard of specialist nursing care. In this role you will be responsible for the development and support of a team of nurses and will have the opportunity to grow your managerial and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Day‑to‑day management of the ward budget and resources for seamless multidisciplinary service delivery.
* Provide exceptional professional and clinical leadership within cancer nursing, promoting service and practice improvement.
* Facilitate liaison between Haematology, the wider cancer centre and integral departments, contributing to strategic review of services.
* Demonstrate clinical expertise in direct nursing care, serving as a role model and fostering partnership with patients.
* Deliver high‑standard nursing care through clinical leadership, direction, supervision and effective systems of work.
* Supervise and monitor nursing practice to maintain standards and assurance of competence.
* Manage staffing levels and skill mix, coordinate leave and duty rotas, and maintain accurate staffing records.
* Ensure prudent use of staff and non‑staff budget, Trust funds, and cost effectiveness of clinical and managerial decisions.
* Select and appoint the nursing team with support from the matron as required.
* Create an environment that supports and encourages personal and professional growth for the nursing team.
* Identify training needs and develop appropriate educational strategies.
* Maintain accurate staff training records.
Key Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Part 1 or 12 of the NMC Register).
* Post‑registration qualification or equivalent experience.
* Qualification in teaching or management, with experience of team management and multidisciplinary teamwork.
* Strong communication skills.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
