As a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act, we must maintain effective emergency plans to ensure we can respond to and recover from major incidents and emergencies.
We are seeking an Emergency Planning Advisor to join our national team. This is a varied and collaborative role, working across the organisation and with external partners to strengthen interoperability and embed best practice in preparedness.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain a risk‑based suite of national emergency plans.
* Ensure plans accurately reflect EA responsibilities and align with multi‑agency arrangements, JESIP principles and standards.
* Improve preparedness for high‑consequence, low‑likelihood emergencies and ensure response capability can continue during business‑continuity disruptions such as IT or power failures.
* Incorporate incident‑management considerations to protect people and the environment in challenging scenarios.
* Contribute to the development of a new Emergency Planning Hub, improving the availability, accessibility and resilience of planning products.
* Hold an incident role and be available to contribute to incident response or business continuity when required.
Qualifications
* A kind and caring attitude with an ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive work culture.
* A good working knowledge of emergency planning and JESIP.
* An understanding or awareness of Environment Agency responsibilities and capabilities across incident management.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* An ability to engage with multiple stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
* Organised, proactive and able to work well independently, and with others.
* Broad range of skills, knowledge and experience relevant to emergency planning.
Additional Information
The team provides national leadership for emergency planning and resilience, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and strengthening the organisation’s preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery capabilities.
You can be based anywhere in England and will need to be comfortable with virtual working technology and travel when required.
This role requires you to undergo security clearance.
