Availability Window
The following are the availability windows we’d like you to be, and the hours we will schedule contracted shifts within. The store operates Wed–Sat evenings overnight: 22:00 to 07:00.
Shift Leader pay: our rate starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. For all hours worked between midnight and 6am you will receive an additional night premium of £2.35 per hour worked. Additional payments may apply depending on location.
It is our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but we also have opportunities for those who would like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) and would still love to hear from you.
The availability windows shown indicate the periods during the week when we would like you to be available to work. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you’ll have 3 weeks’ notice of the exact shifts. We are happy to consider close matches to the advertised times if they suit you better. Being a Shift Leader at Tesco involves supporting store operations and helping customers, colleagues and the communities we serve. You’ll oversee the store from the shop floor and help keep things running smoothly, with responsibilities including customer service and store operations to the benefit of customers, colleagues and communities.
As a Shift Leader you’ll:
* Work in a fast-paced retail environment with variety
* Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations
* Be there for customers, listening to them and helping them find what they came for
* Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback
* Guide and support colleagues to keep the store safe to work and shop
* Understand store performance and assist managers in actions to improve operations
* Lead from the front and set a strong example

* Coordinate the store team to deliver a smooth shopping experience for customers
* Support colleagues to deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks
* Open and close the store, complete duty cover, and ensure safety
* Be the go-to person for day-to-day queries in the absence of a manager
* Keep the store clean, tidy, and well-presented
* Support managers with seasonal, community and charity events
* Contribute to a great, inclusive team atmosphere
* Provide excellent customer service by listening to customers
* Keep the team informed of communications, changes, or updates
* Stay knowledgeable about store performance and look for improvements
* Coordinate store improvements and remove obstacles to great service
* Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
* Recognise and celebrate colleagues providing great service
* Be a great role model by delivering thoughtful customer service to meet every customer’s needs
* Build strong, inclusive relationships with colleagues
* Communicate clearly using a range of methods
* Be comfortable taking the lead in the absence of the manager
* Be a good, flexible decision maker, handling change to serve customers and colleagues
* Be motivating to inspire the team to deliver beyond expectations
* Be curious and continually look for ideas to better serve customers, communities and the planet
