DynexSemiconductor Ltd has been manufacturing semiconductor products for over 60 years, providing IGBT, Bipolar, Power Assembly and Electric Vehicle System products worldwide. We constantly strive to grow as a leading independent manufacturer of high‑power, high‑reliability electronic components.
Opportunity
It is an exciting time to be joining Dynex as we embark on a number of exciting projects, and successful candidates will join the team at our Research and Development Centre, contributing to power module development projects from inception right through to production.
Responsibilities
* Design power modules incorporating wide band gap semiconductors (e.g. GaN, SiC) to ensure high switching performance and compliance with application‑related standards.
* Analyze magnetics, thermal characteristics, and EMI profiles of power modules and systems to optimise performance.
* Design and layout of high and low power circuits, minimising commutation loop inductance, gate loop inductance, and electromagnetic interference.
* Perform circuit simulations and PDN analysis to optimise circuit performance.
* Develop module designs with system‑level architecture in mind, including capacitor integration, heat sink design, coolant flow integration, placement of gate‑drive boards and power busbars.
* Produce schematic documentation and engineering drawings for power module and system designs and oversee early sample manufacture of prototype modules.
* Use 3D and 2D CAD modelling software (SolidEdge) and PCB design software (Altium) to produce module and system designs.
* Use finite element modelling software (ANSYS Mechanical and Q3D) and circuit simulation software (LTSpice, PLECS) to evaluate designs and maximise static and dynamic performance.
* Design power modules and systems in accordance with Design for Manufacture principles from the outset.
* Take on project leadership positions, overseeing and driving a project from idea through to prototype manufacture, with full ownership of product development projects.
* Work collaboratively to create module designs starting from the ideas stage and meeting internal or external customer requirements and specifications.
About You
We are looking for an engineer with experience in power modules, preferably in a research and development capacity. The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated, confident in leading projects and able to communicate ideas effectively to colleagues across the business.
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or higher in electronics, electrical or mechanical engineering.
* Equivalent or superior industrial experience in power electronics module design, PCB design and layout, or power systems development.
* Masters or PhD level education in a relevant subject is desirable.
* Industrial experience of power module and power system level design, especially power inverters; automotive drive‑train inverters advantageous.
* Experience in electronics design, circuit topology, layout, and power electronics system design considering parasitic magnetics, thermals, and EMI.
* Experience using 2D and 3D modelling tools to produce engineering drawings; focus on electronics and power electronics products is desirable.
* Experience in PCB design and layout optimisation for commutation loop and control loop circuits; Altium Designer experience advantageous.
* Strong experience in circuit simulation techniques for characterising circuit designs and device selection; knowledge of LTSpice, Q3D, and/or PLECS desirable.
* Experience with wide‑band‑gap semiconductors (GaN, SiC) advantageous.
* Chartership with a relevant body (e.g. IEEE, IOP) viewed favourably.
