Overview
Southend City Council has a new full‑time, permanent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Lawyer. The position will require you to hit the ground running, independently managing a varied caseload of contract and procurement matters and providing expert legal advice and support.
Responsibilities
* Draft, negotiate and review commercial and construction contracts such as JCT and NEC.
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and council policies.
* Work closely with procurement colleagues to provide procurement strategy and risk advice.
* Review and comment on reports in respect of the council’s governance and decision‑making procedures, including the Contract Procedure Rules.
* Safeguard the council’s interests, manage legal risks and support procurement and commercial initiatives.
Work setting
Hybrid working opportunities are available; however, you must be on‑site at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2 days a week.
