Diagnostic Senior Scientist – AstraZeneca
Join AstraZeneca as a Diagnostic Senior Scientist in Cambridge, UK. You will apply your expertise in oncology diagnostic technologies to develop innovative diagnostic approaches that support precision medicine and drug development.
Responsibilities
* Deliver diagnostic science and innovation projects, collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
* Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies in diagnostics, focusing on oncology and identifying collaboration opportunities.
* Develop innovative diagnostic science proposals across core therapeutic areas.
* Evaluate the performance of novel diagnostics through delivery of diagnostic feasibility studies and laboratory‑based science, meeting timelines and budgets.
* Provide scientific and strategic feedback to precision medicine approaches for diagnostic and drug product teams.
* Ensure all activities comply with AstraZeneca Code of Conduct and related policies, including safe handling of budgets, safety, health, and environment.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Master’s/PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant subject.
* Record of delivery in a scientific capability, including peer‑reviewed publications.
* Expertise with one or more of: IHC, digital pathology, NGS, PCR.
* Excellent knowledge of current technology trends in oncology diagnostics and precision medicine.
* Experience working with external partners or collaborators (academic investigators and diagnostic companies).
* Ability to communicate with cross‑functional stakeholders through oral presentations and progress reports.
Desirable
* Computational and data analysis skills enabling automated/semi‑automated analysis of large datasets (AI, software, programming languages).
* Experience developing diagnostic assays in a regulated environment (IVD standards or CAP/CLIA laboratory).
* Experience leading projects within a diagnostic or drug development organisation.
* Understanding of drug and companion diagnostic assay co‑development and commercialisation, working in early or late phase projects.
* Demonstrable experience of analytical diagnostic assay validation and/or regulatory submission in a clinical testing setting.
* Knowledge of requirements related to handling of human biological samples.
