Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Cardiac Specialist Nursing Team, as a Cardiac Rehabilitation and Surgical Liaison Nurse Specialist at The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.
This role is a part‑time position, 26.25 hours per week (two weeks of three days and two weeks of four days per month). You will be based at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. The post holder will be required to travel to the exercise groups in central / west Cornwall, so own transport would be required.
Main duties of the job
* Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) Inpatient Service – Providing all suitable cardiac patients with the pre‑hospital discharge component of the CR service (Phase 1). Delivering information relating to diagnosis (including investigation results), and education about risk factors, lifestyle modification, chest pain management, driving advice, returning to work advice, medications and exercise advice. Providing psychological support and coaching and where required referral / sign‑posting onto other services. Service delivery is in line with the British Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Prevention (BACPR) and NICE recommendations.
* Cardiac Surgery Liaison Service – Providing support and education for cardiac inpatients and their families at the point of acceptance for surgery, through to transfer. Co‑ordinating the cardiac surgical pathway by liaising with the surgical centres and the team at RCHT. Facilitating and organising the relevant surgical work‑up in a timely manner.
* Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Programme for Truro and Helston – Supporting the cardiac rehabilitation exercise / education groups alongside the community cardiac team in line with the BACPR standards. These sessions are held off‑site in local gym facilities and will require the candidate to be able to travel to these venues when required.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* NMC registration
* Degree level qualification or working towards
* ILS qualification
* Completion or commitment to undertake relevant extended role scope competencies, such as the British Association for Cardiac Rehabilitation (BACPR) Physical activity and exercise (1 and 2) qualification
Desirable Qualifications
* University qualification in specialty
* Teaching / assessment / mentoring qualification
* Non‑medical prescribing course
* Completion or commitment to undertake relevant extended role scope competencies such as Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) training
Essential Experience
* Previous experience within the specialty
* Teaching / education experience
* Good experience of IT systems including Excel
Desirable Experience
* Audit or research experience
* Presentation experience
* Leadership skills
