Safeguarding Midwife

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Registered Midwife to join the Safeguarding Team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Named Midwife, Named Nurses and other safeguarding professionals to support the Trust in meeting its statutory safeguarding responsibilities under the Children Act (1989 and 2004) and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2026). This specialist role provides professional safeguarding advice and support to maternity and wider health professionals, promoting high‑quality, effective safeguarding practice to protect pregnant people, babies (including unborn babies), children and young people.
Main duties of the job
Work collaboratively with the Named Midwife and Safeguarding Team to ensure the Trust maintains high standards of safeguarding practice, including the review and updating of safeguarding policies in line with local and national statutory guidance.
Provide specialist professional advice and support to practitioners across the Trust on safeguarding matters relating to pregnant people, babies, unborn babies, children and young people.
Work in partnership with internal teams and external agencies to ensure robust, timely information sharing and effective multi‑agency safeguarding practice.
Support the planning, delivery and evaluation of safeguarding training, ensuring compliance with the Intercollegiate Document: Safeguarding Children and Young People Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff (2019) and meeting workforce requirements across the Trust.
Provide reflective safeguarding supervision in line with the Trust Safeguarding Supervision Policy, supporting staff practice and professional development.
Support staff in the preparation of reports for child protection conferences, court proceedings and police statements as required.
Contribute to the collection and analysis of information for audits, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, and serious incidents related to safeguarding.

Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
* United Kingdom recognised Degree in a healthcare profession
* Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio and registration revalidation
* Safeguarding supervision training
* Teaching Mentoring Qualification
* Evidence of recent level 3/4 safeguarding children/Young people training
* Working towards a Masters Degree in Safeguarding
Experience
* 3 years experience as a Registered Midwife
* Experience of safeguarding within existing role
* Experience of working in the community
