Quantity Surveyor – Tier 1 Main Contractor Location: Reading Project: £100m Commercial Development Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 package Type: Permanent The Company We are working closely with a Tier 1 main contractor renowned for delivering high-value, complex projects across the UK. Due to continued growth and an exciting pipeline, they are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major £100m commercial scheme in Reading. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience on a landmark development, while being supported by an established commercial team with clear career progression pathways. The Role The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of work packages, ensuring value is maximised and risks are mitigated throughout the project lifecycle. Reporting into the Commercial Manager, you will manage subcontractor procurement, cost control, and change management processes. Responsibilities include: * Commercial management of subcontract packages from procurement to final account. * Preparing and managing tender documentation and subcontractor appointments. * Maintaining cost reports and forecasts, ensuring accurate budget control. * Administering client and subcontractor change processes. * Identifying commercial risks and opportunities, protecting project margins. * Driving value through cost-saving initiatives and value engineering. * Producing monthly commercial reports and updates for senior management. * Building strong working relationships with subcontractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders. About You * Degree educated in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management (or equivalent). * Minimum 3–5 years’ experience working with a main contractor. * Proven experience in subcontract procurement, cost reporting, and commercial management. * Strong communication and negotiation skills. * Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. * Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard contract administration.
