Overview
Lead Cable Engineer (Transmission) role at TieTalent. Hybrid position based in Scotland with potential remote work or hybrid arrangements. Start date: September 2025. Duration: approximately 7 months. Daily rate: £750 (Inside IR35 via Umbrella).
Location preferences: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen client offices; remote work from home is possible for UK locations. Occasional travel (less than 1 trip per month, approx. 2 nights) may be required to attend the client site or Glasgow office.

Lead Cable Project Engineer
Role context
The successful candidate will support design and deliver engineering on a Subsea Transmission Cable Project, with possible scope to support other HVAC Offshore projects within the portfolio.
Responsibilities
* Involved in detail design reviews, HAZCON/HAZOP sessions supporting construction, installation, commissioning and project completion.
* Provide cable engineering support by reviewing cable system designs, including evaluation of technology options, underground cable routing, producing current rating calculations using CYMCAP, and assessment of interface requirements.
* Develop technical scopes and specifications for subsea and underground cable elements, including modifications to existing assets.
* Review cable system prequalification and type testing reports for client approval; verify contractor/consultant detailed underground cable system designs; witness factory and relevant discipline site acceptance testing.
* Provide technical support to site teams to ensure quality of installations and cable commissioning activities.
* Evaluate tenders and procure and manage specialist services from consultants.
* Promote and manage safety within assigned projects through CDM procedures and practices; ensure project engineering compliance with company, HSE and industry regulations.
* Work closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to identify and mitigate engineering and quality risks.
* Provide technical support on high-profile projects or technically complex issues.
Qualifications
* Experience in transmission-level cable projects, including document review, factory acceptance testing, installation and commissioning, ideally up to 400kV including subsea and land cable; able to assess issues and evaluate a range of technical solutions.
* Understanding of legislation and implications for Transmission network management for Assets and Projects, including Construction Design Management and Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations.
* Problem-solving attitude with the strength of character to address critical matters within project teams.
* Excellent communication skills with diligence and ability to prioritise tasks.
* A degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or relevant technical experience; ideally Chartered Engineer or working towards professional accreditation.
