School Overview

This well-established and inclusive Primary and Nursery School located in the London Borough of Brent serves a diverse and vibrant local community. The school is deeply committed to early intervention, recognising that positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and strong relationships are fundamental to a child’s success in education. Leaders place high importance on pastoral care, emotional literacy, and creating a calm, structured learning environment where all children feel safe and supported.

The school has a growing number of pupils across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1 who require additional behavioural and emotional support. As a result, the leadership team is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Behaviour Mentor to work closely with young children who may struggle with emotional regulation, social interaction, or behaviour for learning.

Role Purpose

The Behaviour Mentor will play a key role in supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs within the Early Years and Primary setting. Many children supported in this role may present with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or attachment-related behaviours.

You will work as a consistent, trusted adult, helping pupils to understand their emotions, manage behaviour positively, and engage successfully with learning and routines. This role is both classroom-based and intervention-focused, requiring patience, resilience, and a child-centred approach.

* Deliver small group interventions focusing on emotional regulation and social skills

* Support pupils within Nursery and classroom settings

* Assist children during transitions, playtimes, and lunchtime periods

* Implement behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies

* Use play-based, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches

* Work closely with teachers, EYFS staff, and the SENCO

* Record observations and contribute to review meetings

* Build positive and trusting relationships with parents and carers

* Support safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be calm, nurturing, and emotionally resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You should be confident working with children who display challenging behaviour and understand that behaviour is a form of communication.

The ideal Behaviour Mentor will have:

* Experience working with children in a Primary, Nursery, or EYFS setting

* Knowledge of SEMH, SEND, and early childhood development

* A consistent and positive approach to behaviour management

* Strong communication and teamwork skills

* The ability to remain calm in emotionally challenging situations

* A proactive and reflective attitude

Qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health are beneficial but not essential.

Training and Support

The school offers comprehensive training and ongoing professional development. Behaviour Mentors are supported through regular supervision, access to external training, and collaboration with experienced SEN and pastoral staff. This role is ideal for individuals considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, or pastoral leadership.

* A supportive and inclusive school culture

* Strong leadership and pastoral systems

* Ongoing CPD and training opportunities

* A rewarding role making a genuine difference
