Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5/ST6+)/Senior in Hepatology

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5/ST6+)/ Senior in the Department of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is available from 01 April 2027 until 31 March 2028.

Main duties of the job

This post is geared towards furthering a career in hepatology and liver transplantation with specific experience in HCC. This is available to applicants who are within or beyond gastroenterology/hepatology training who either:

(1) Want to take time out of program to pursue a clinical interest (out of program experience: OOPE), or (2) Have reached the end of their training and want post‑CCT experience in tertiary hepatology and liver transplantation.

In order to be considered applicants must meet the essential criteria as noted in the person specification section of the job description.

Full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

About us

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Non‑UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Job responsibilities

A breadth of learning opportunities are available, depending on the applicants preference. These include Tertiary Hepatology, Liver Transplantation and Research. A contribution to the HCC service is expected for the duration of the post. The department undertakes basic, translational and clinical research in alcoholic hepatitis, HCC, NASH, cholangiocyte biology and PBC in partnership with the University of Cambridge and Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. The successful candidates would all contribute to the Hepatology on call rota.

This post is not accredited as part of a specialty training programme but could be used for purposes as stated above.

Shortlist

  • Full MRCP
  • Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the GMC at time of application
  • Completion of Foundation Competencies
  • Completion of a Core Medical Programme for Specialty Training or equivalent
  • Completion of at least 2 years clinical training as Gastroenterology StR or equivalent, including Hepatology experience
  • Publication of an original article or completion of a research project
  • At least 6 months experience in a tertiary liver centre. At least 3 years as a Specialty Registrar or equivalent
  • Ability to undertake research projects and audit
