Westmorland and Furness Council is seeking a dedicated and proactive Locality Officer to join our dynamic, multi-skilled neighbourhood team. This role involves actively engaging with communities to build and maintain strong relationships with Ward Councillors, residents, and partner organisations. As a Locality Officer, you will play a key role in the engagement, education, and enforcement of the Council’s Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs). Your responsibilities will include conducting regular foot patrols across the towns and villages of South Lakeland, responding to public reports of dog fouling, and educating the community on regulations related to dog fouling, dogs on leads, and dog exclusion zones. The ability to confidently handle challenging interactions and clearly communicate PSPO legislation is essential. Additional duties include enforcing littering regulations, managing cases involving abandoned vehicles, and addressing incidents of fly tipping. The role requires outdoor work in varying weather conditions, contributing to the enhancement of the local environment. Patrols will be conducted flexibly across the district, including occasional evenings and weekends, targeting identified hotspots. While prior enforcement experience is advantageous, it is not essential. Applicants should demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and a professional approach to their work, along with a commitment to delivering high standards of customer service. The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training from the Council, including annual refresher courses related to the role. Uniform and PPE will be provided. What can we offer you!
