Aspiring Youth Worker - Woking - Education and Training - SEMH
This is a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role working with vulnerable children and young people in Woking, Surrey. The school cares for 60 pupils aged 9-16 years and uses a holistic and restorative approach to learning and behaviour management. Students have varying degrees of social, emotional, mental health needs (SEMH) and may have trauma-related challenges that affect relationship-building and behaviour. The role suits someone with empathy and understanding who is passionate about supporting mental health to help students achieve their potential.
Responsibilities
* Support pupils with SEMH, Autism, OCD, ADHD and Complex Social Needs in a specialist provision setting.
* Work with small classes (typically 6-8 pupils) to implement key skills and personal development.
* Use holistic, therapeutic and restorative approaches; employ de-escalation techniques as part of everyday practice.
* Contribute to building confidence and self-esteem through trauma-informed support and positive reinforcement.
* Support with a curriculum focused on GSCE subjects and relevant qualifications (AQA) tailored to individual needs.
* Follow safeguarding procedures and participate in specialist training provided (including Team Teach and safeguarding).
* Collaborate with a specialist team and contribute to ongoing pupil welfare and education planning.
Qualifications and profile
* Ideal for individuals with aspirations in Youth Work, Probation and Rehabilitation.
* A criminology, psychology or equivalent degree is highly desirable.
* Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and pursue personal education within an SEMH environment.
