Embedded software engineer

Offer description

Flux Computing designs and manufactures optical processors to train and run inference on large AI models. We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to design and build ultra‑high performance tooling that supports our OTPU hardware development.

Role

You will own tools that span hardware safety, calibration, debugging, and validation. Your mission is to go from concept to deployment – rapidly iterating, prototyping, and delivering robust embedded solutions that enable our OTPUs to run safely, efficiently, and continuously push the limits of their performance envelope.

Responsibilities

* Own and deliver projects on the team's roadmap that unlock key high‑impact technical and business milestones.
* Partner closely with optical, hardware, and software teams to align on system interfaces, requirements, and performance goals.
* Create robust tooling for hardware validation and bring‑up, with rapid prototyping in Python and a clear path to production‑grade implementations.
* Design and implement embedded systems for hardware safety, synchronization, and low‑level control.
* Develop calibration and debug utilities – starting with fast Python prototypes and iterating toward robust releases.
* Build CI/CD pipelines tailored to embedded firmware, enabling quick iterations and reliable system integrity with hardware‑in‑the‑loop and software‑in‑the‑loop testing.
* Build systems for live hardware diagnostics, monitoring, and automated fault recovery across OTPU platforms.

Skills & Experience

* 3+ years experience with bring‑up, calibration, and debug of custom hardware systems (e.g. SoCs, FPGAs, or AI accelerators).
* Deep proficiency in C/C++ for embedded applications, with a solid grasp of real‑time constraints, memory models, and low‑level hardware interfaces.
* Strong Python skills for prototyping, automation, and test harness development.
* Experience building CI/CD pipelines for embedded development (e.g. automated flashing, test orchestration, artifact tracking).
* Proficiency with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, etc.) and interpreting electrical signals in context.
* Solid understanding of hardware/software boundaries, including interrupt handling, bus protocols (e.g. PCIe), and memory‑mapped I/O.
* Excellent written and verbal communication; thrive in fast‑paced, cross‑disciplinary startup settings.

Compensation & Benefits

* £126,000 – £154,000 annual salary, depending on experience, skills, and location.
* Competitive stock options.
* Work from our HQ in King’s Cross, right in the middle of London’s buzzing AI scene.
* Full visa sponsorship and relocation support (UK and abroad).
* Full BUPA healthcare and dental cover.
* High‑spec tech for everyone – M4 Macs as standard, M4 Pros for Engineers.
* Sony noise‑cancelling headphones and ergonomic setups.
* Personal company card for tools (e.g. ChatGPT Pro).
* Chef‑cooked dinners in the office every night.
* Monthly off‑site team socials.
* 25 days of paid holiday, plus all UK bank holidays.
* In‑house 3D printer access.
* Cycle2work scheme.
* Coffee shop tab.
* Pension plan and salary sacrifice options.

Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates’ eligibility to work at Flux depends on their most recent citizenship or permanent residency status. We are generally unable to consider applicants whose most recent citizenship or permanent residence is in certain restricted countries (currently including Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Venezuela). Applicants who have subsequently obtained citizenship or permanent residency in another country not subject to these restrictions may still be eligible.

We anticipate reviewing all submissions within 3 weeks, and will contact you if you are shortlisted.

Please note: we receive many applications, and this role is not at the top of our priority list.

If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in AI and thrive in a high‑energy, fast‑paced environment, we want to hear from you. Apply now to join Flux and be a key player in shaping the future of computing.
