Pole erector / Lorry driver

This Pole Erector / Lorry Driver role reports to a Field Staff Supervisor and will work within Network Operations based in our Polegate depot. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £36,880 per annum (based on experience) and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check

Job Purpose

The job purpose of the pole erector/ lorry driver is to drive the pole lorry, supplying poles to site. Erecting new overhead line poles on working sites either before or on the day of overhead line works. To replace and remove old overhead line poles from working sites on the day of overhead line works. To support all site-based operations as instructed by line manager.

Dimensions

10. To lead and operate an HGV pole lorry with HiAB and auger attachment.
11. Set up site signage or assist with site traffic management.
12. Excavate holes for new poles either with a HiAB mounted auger, mechanical excavator or by hand depending on site circumstances.
13. Erect poles by means of either the lorry's crane arm or excavators bucket using suitably rated slings or by hand as part of the site team.
14. To be a team player and lead the team.
15. Diligently perform the responsibilities within their role in the team.
16. Be prepared to challenge unsafe practices.
17. Work to the relevant operational procedures, manuals and DSR's.
18. Demonstrate safety culture.
19. Produce quality expertise.
20. Always follow all business procedures and company safety policies.
21. Perform a storm role during emergencies.

Knowledge, qualifications and experience:

Essential Requirements

HGV Class Il Licence holder

22. Sub Station Entry
23. ALLMI - Lorry Mounted Loader H&A>20T
24. Slinger & Signalman
25. Vehicle & Excavation Banksman
26. NRSWA Qualification - Sections 1,2 and 3
27. Be conversant with HSS 01 080
28. Driver Qualification Card (CPC)
29. Operate High Reach Vehicle & Plant nr OH (Up to and inc. 11KV)
30. First aid training certificate
31. Safe Use of Approved Pole Jacks
32. Off Road Driving (BORDA)

Requirements for

33. Operate High Reach Vehicle and Plant near OH Line
34. Operate High Reach Vehicle and Plant near OH Line & LS7 Pole Erection (U.P.S)
35. City and Guilds 2304 Level 2 Electrical Engineering

Desired

36. Previous or current UKPN authorisations
37. Mechanical excavator training certificate
38. IOSH Working Safely

Customer

39. Engage with the customer and landowners affected by our works and work towards improving customer satisfaction scores
40. Communicate with Field Engineers, Field Staff Supervisors and Lead Field Engineers to ensure delivery of customer-focused works.
41. Communicate with other delivery functions to ensure the smooth running of Network Operations.

Systems

• Usage of mobile tablet device to receive work instructions and record working time and actual work completed.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
