Overview
We are seeking a motivated and commercially minded Car Buyer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for purchasing quality vehicles that meet our business needs and customer demand. Whether acquiring stock from auctions, trade-ins, private sellers, you'll use your strong knowledge of the automotive market to make informed buying decisions that maximise profitability and ensure customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for vehicle quality and value, excellent negotiation skills, and a solid understanding of market trends. You'll play a key role in maintaining the right stock mix, supporting sales targets, and helping to drive the continued success of our automotive operation..
Responsibilities
* Assess Vehicle Value and Condition:
Conduct detailed appraisals of vehicle condition, mileage, service history, and documentation to ensure accurate valuation.
* Negotiate with Customers:
Negotiate pricing with customers to secure high-quality stock at the best possible cost.
* Maintain Records and Reports:
Keep accurate records of purchases, costs, and supplier performance; provide regular reports to management.
* Maintain Accurate Records:
Log all vehicle movements and confirm collection details to ensure up-to-date records for compliance and operational reporting.
* Plan and Schedule Collections:
Proactively manage and confirm vehicle collection arrangements in advance, taking into account auction house deadlines, seller availability, and transport capacity.
Skills
Valuation & Appraisal Skills
Ability to accurately assess the value of vehicles based on condition, mileage, service history, and market demand.
Negotiation Skills
Ability to negotiate prices, to achieve cost savings and value for money.
Customer Relationship Management
Experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with the sellers.
Procurement & Purchasing Knowledge
Understanding of procurement processes, sourcing strategies, and purchasing best practices.
Trend Awareness
Up-to-date knowledge of automotive trends, consumer demand, electric vehicles (EVs), and resale values.
Attention to Detail
Meticulous in checking vehicle documentation, service history, and condition reports to ensure quality purchases.
Driving Licence & Willingness to Travel
Full UK driving licence (or relevant region) and flexibility to travel to inspect vehicles or attend auctions.
