Long Term Futures is seeking a patient, nurturing and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil in EYFS within a supportive Barnet primary school.
This is a highly rewarding role, ideal for someone with experience supporting non-verbal children with ASD or communication needs, who understands the importance of routine, consistency and alternative communication strategies in early years development.
About the Role
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals, your responsibilities will include:
* Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil
* Supporting communication using visual aids, PECS, Makaton or similar strategies
* Encouraging engagement through play-based learning and structured activities
* Supporting sensory needs and emotional regulation throughout the day
* Assisting with transitions and maintaining clear, consistent routines
* Promoting social interaction, confidence and early development skills
* Working collaboratively with staff to implement personalised support plans
This role requires someone calm, consistent and confident supporting pupils with high communication needs in an EYFS setting.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or ASD in EYFS (essential)
* Understanding of SALT strategies, communication tools and sensory needs
* Patient, nurturing and able to build strong relationships
* Confident working in an early years environment
* Reliable and committed to a long-term role
