Medical Secretary - Respiratory Medicine

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for a highly motivated and well‑organised individual to join the team of Medical Secretaries within the Respiratory Department.
This varied secretarial role will support a team of Respiratory Consultants and Nursing staff with administrative and secretarial tasks. The postholder will also provide key support to our patients by assisting with their queries, concerns and engaging with the wider clinical team and other key stakeholders.
Main duties of the job
Typing of clinics and general correspondence, complex diary management and provision of patient data. Dealing with correspondence from patients, GPs and other sources, including the scheduling of appointments, to ensure referral to treatment targets are met.
Attending MDT meetings and coordinating admin and other tasks involved with this complex role. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, relevant secretarial/admin experience, proficient typing skills, audiotyping and digital dictation experience. Knowledge of medical terminology would be advantageous.
To be successful in the post you must be well organised, able to prioritise your own workload in a fast‑paced environment and work independently to meet strict deadlines.
You will be required to supervise the Assistant Medical Secretary and provide training and support when required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE English Language, ECDL Grade C or above (or equivalent)
* ECDL
Experience
* Minimum 2 years experience of staff secretarial/administrative supervision experience
* Experience of using a variety of IT applications, including Microsoft Office
* NHS Experience
Skills
* Ability to be flexible and to adapt to new demands
* Ability to explain complex information to staff, patients and others as required
* Proficient audio typist with the ability to accurately transcribe complex digital dictation and type complex medical information whilst subject to frequent interruption
* Ability to communicate with people who are upset and angry and deal with situation effectively
Knowledge
* Thorough knowledge of medical terminology
