As a PSO, you'll work with medium and lower risk clients, managing a caseload of offenders before and after sentence. Your responsibilities include assessing and managing risks, providing information to courts, and collaborating with justice agencies. You'll support offenders by offering practical advice on housing and employment, and by listening and empathising.
The job involves undertaking offender management tasks, supporting the Probation Officer in high-risk cases, and contributing to risk management plans. You will use computer systems to maintain records, conduct visits, prepare reports, and deliver programmes. You may also work in court settings, undertake safeguarding duties, and support team activities.
Applicants should be empathetic, patient, resilient, and have good writing skills. Experience working with individuals facing social or personal difficulties is desirable, but a degree is not required. The role requires effective communication, planning, and understanding of the criminal justice system and risk management principles.
The role is based in the UK, with flexible working arrangements available. The starting salary is £26,475, with benefits including annual leave, pension, training, and employee networks. Candidates will undergo security checks and must meet the Civil Service Behaviours and Experience criteria. The application process includes a Civil Service Judgement Test and an interview.
