Alternative Provision Mentor based at Mowmacre (LE4) & Lutterworth (LE17)
Purpose of the Role
To provide high-quality mentoring, guidance and support to pupils attending the Alternative Provision, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships, and engage successfully in education. The role places a strong emphasis on using sport, coaching, and positive activities to build engagement and confidence, alongside specialist support for pupils with SEN and those displaying challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
* Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and supportive role model.
* Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring sessions.
* Use sport, physical activity and coaching approaches to motivate and inspire pupils, supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing.
* Support pupils with SEN, tailoring mentoring approaches to meet individual learning and developmental needs.
* Apply de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to respond to challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent, trauma-informed way.
* Support pupils in accessing learning activities, both in the provision and during reintegration to mainstream or other educational settings.
* Work closely with teaching staff to adapt approaches that meet the needs of individual learners.
* Encourage and motivate pupils to achieve personal, social and academic goals.
* Promote safeguarding and wellbeing at all times, following school and statutory procedures.
* Record and report on pupil progress, incidents and interventions in line with policies.
* Participate in staff training, supervision and team meetings.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience of working with children/young people
* Experience of coaching or leading sport/physical activity sessions to engage and motivate young people.
* Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with vulnerable pupils.
* Strong communication, empathy and listening skills.
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
* Resilience, patience and a calm, consistent approach.
* Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.

Pay: £12.21 per hour
