AAG Defence Services is a MAA Part 145 Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) based in RAF Brize Norton, UK. We work in partnership with Airbus Aerospace & Defence to supply dedicated MRO services, including heavy and line maintenance, to the Royal Air Force’s fleet of A400M Atlas aircraft. Our committed and flexible team of over 100 engineers and management are based at RAF Brize Norton in a dedicated 24,000m², three-bay facility designed to optimise the maintenance of the aircraft. AAG Defence Services is a subsidiary company of Atlantic Aviation Group.

Here at Atlantic Aviation Group Defence Services (AAGDS) we have an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated people leader and senior professional seeking a role in a challenging, fast-paced and rewarding environment as Director of Maintenance & Accountable Manager at Brize Norton.
Based on site at Brize Norton RAF base, the purpose of the role is to lead and be accountable for the safe, efficient, and cost-focused delivery of aircraft base maintenance services to AAGDS customers. A key objective of the role is to achieve operational excellence through the leadership of our team, cultural change and implementation of business improvement strategies, tools and techniques whilst remaining compliant with all relevant regulatory processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
People
* Ensure we have a safe working environment where people can come to work and get home safe every night.
* Site lead for the AAG Defence Services Operations Team.
* Co-ordination of key support services, e.g. Human Resources, IT and Finance to optimise overall site excellence
* Support the senior leadership team in devising and implementing techniques to drive change throughout the business.
* Provide the right leadership, direction, and management to the AAGDS Team with a strong results-oriented focus across safety, people, quality, service delivery and cost management.
* Champion and drive change, adaptability, and agility across the operation.
* Manage and grow the key relationships with AAGDS customers and partners in Brize Norton.
* Build the AAGDS business in Brize Norton by establishing and maintaining strong relationships our partners.
* Maintain and enhance a strong partnership with the Engineering Trade Union (Prospect)
* Develop and maintain a positive stakeholder relationship with the Military Aviation Authority and other relevant bodies.
* Work with the wider AAG to ensure that AAGDS is at the forefront of training and development, while being the employer of choice in the sector we operate in.
Quality
* Accountable Manager for AAGDS ensuring effective implementation of AAGDS MAA Part 145 MOE.
* Ensure the continued maintenance & approval of the AAG Defence Services MAA Part 145 certification.
* Lead the creation and definition of the safety strategy and make a proactive contribution to the overall safety impact of the business by influencing key stakeholders so that they understand all safety aspects relating to service delivery.
* Determine requisite actions required for the management of any non-compliance activities ensuring that robust processes are established, and a working framework applied to all future non-compliance issues.
Delivery
* Lead, organise, measure, and drive the performance of the operations team in support of company goals and objectives in a healthy challenging environment.
* Provide technical support to the operational team when required.
* Design, develop, and deliver management processes that are required to comply with the relevant regulatory and business requirements.
* Proactively measure, monitor, and evaluate operational KPI’s taking appropriate actions to ensure levels of performance are not compromised.
* Maintain and open mindset to exploring what the organisation can do better and areas for new growth.
Cost
* Deliver P&L performance for AAGDS through strong leadership of the entire team.
* Ensure all commercial aspects of relevant AAGDS contracts are understood and all revenue is captured and invoiced.
* Review and analyse monthly financial results and provide recommendations.
* Identify, develop and execute analysis of business initiatives and/or new service offerings.
* Monitor monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget to ensure site achieves key financials.
* Develop the annual budget in line with the annual business planning schedule.
Essential skills and qualifications
* Strong people leadership experience and an experience of managing team.
* 10 years or more experience in aviation industry.
* Degree or equivalent of knowledge or skill acquired through experience, other qualifications, and training/development.
* A credible team leader and accomplished MRO Leader with well-developed communication, influencing and negotiation skills gained in organisations undergoing significant transformation; well-rounded skills in making the complex simple.
* Experience of operating at senior level in an MRO function, evidenced by applying strong leadership and management skills to ensure successful delivery of outputs and outcomes.
* Proven ability to manage a range of project types and complex business initiatives and change programmes.
* Proven ability to drive continuous improvement showing clear commercial acumen including the development and assurance of business cases.
* Strong, credible impact, with a demonstrated capability to resolve conflict; build, maintain and utilise relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve business goals.
* Strong relationship builder across the organisation (internal & external).
* Proven knowledge and track record in delivering productivity improvement initiatives.
* Liaison experience with the other aviation industry leaders.
* Experience with P&L and business plan strategy.
* Working knowledge of inspection procedures, methods, equipment and accepted industry standards.
* Good command in both written and spoken English.
* Detailed minded, excellent management skills, strong business acumen with high level of financial literacy.
