Newcastle is a great City, one that never stands still, that faces forward and embraces change. A City that makes history and shapes the future with a bold vision to achieve its ambitions supporting a post-pandemic vibrant City for both its residents and visitors.

Our services are powered by people and inspired by fresh ideas, and we have an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to start their career at Newcastle City Council in an apprenticeship role.

The Castle Nurseries service consists of five nursery settings across the City of Newcastle.

We are seeking to recruit 1 Early Years Practitioner Level 3 Apprentice, for Castle Nurseries at Montagu

What will I be doing?
As a Castle Nurseries apprentice, you will be learning on the job to be actively involved in the provision of effective care and education of children 0-5 years within Castle Nurseries within the contexts of the child’s needs, their family and community.

What will I need?
You will need to be motivated and passionate about early years, have some knowledge of child development and willing to work as part of a team.

What will I receive in return?
We’ll support you to learn new skills, and to thrive in your role, undertaking a Level 3 Early Years Apprenticeship Qualification. The role is full time (37 hours per week) for a fixed term of 24 months. At Newcastle City Council our apprentices are paid a percentage of the salary for the role the apprentice is working towards. This increases each year as you develop your knowledge and skills. In Year 1 you will be paid up to 60% of the salary rate, or National Minimum Wage according to age, whichever is greater.

This apprenticeship role is working towards the role of Early Years Practitioner, which has a yearly salary for qualified staff of £25,949 (includes Real Living Wage*) for 37 hours full time.

*We are proud to be an accredited Real Living Wage Council, paying all of our employees a minimum of 13.45 per hour; leading and setting standards for good work within the city.

Whilst we are unable to guarantee a post in the role apprentices work towards, all our apprentices are supported to apply for suitable vacancies when they complete their apprenticeship so that they can make use of their new skills and qualifications.
