Innovative and entrepreneurial, we are also ranked top 5 in the UK, and first in the region, for graduate business start-ups.

Overview of the Independent End-Point Assessor (EPA) role

The externally appointed Assessors will support our quality assurance processes with integrated apprenticeship standards. By the nature of the apprenticeship structure, assessors must be independent of the teaching, learning and management of the on-programme apprentice experience. Rigorous, robust and independent end-point assessment is essential to give employers confidence that apprentices completing an apprenticeship standard can actually perform in the occupation they have been trained in and can demonstrate the duties, and knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) set out in the occupational standard.

Assessors will operate under an annual agreement. This annual renewal process is essential to ensure ongoing alignment of professional skills and competency to the apprenticeship standard and ability to appropriately assess the activity outlined in the Apprenticeship Standard Assessment Plan. Individual assessment experience with detailed industry knowledge is essential to allow robust judgements against the relevant apprentice standards to be made, competency-based assessment experience is desirable.

The Independent Assessors will conduct the online assessment of the higher degree integrated assessment in accordance with the regulations outlined in the Advanced Clinical Practitioner End Point Assessment Plan:

This includes the following responsibilities:

1. Ensure fair and impartial assessments and make judgments about the application of knowledge, skills, and behaviours to the workplace.
2. Assess and grade the open book examination
3. Chair the presentation panel and determine the presentation grade
4. Verify the final apprenticeship grade
5. Work with the internal moderator to ensure a consistent and fair approach in line with agreed rubrics
6. Act as first marker for resits of any element of the EPA
7. Participate in standardisation and external quality assurance activities where required

Applicants must:

8. Be a current Registered Health Professional (NMC, HCPC, GPhc) and participate in ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to Advanced Clinical Practice
9. Hold a masters degree or higher qualification in a health or related subject
10. Have a minimum of three years’ experience working in the field of Advanced Clinical Practice in a clinical and or educational setting
11. Possess a minimum of three years’ experience of assessing at masters level and an understanding of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship standard and EPA Plan
