Select English have been running summer school programs since 1991, offering courses for children, teenagers, and adults. We are an independent school and take pride in our friendly, supportive, and professional approach to teaching and learning. Select English is searching for Social Organisers to assist the Senior Social Organiser in the planning, preparation and leading of activities and excursions. Culford is a beautiful school built on the estate of Culford Hall, set in 480 acres of Grade 1 parkland. The combination of modern and historic buildings with excellent sports facilities makes Culford an ideal location for a summer course.
Job Overview
You'll be responsible for the enthusiastic delivery of the social program at Select English. This role is focused on delivering and leading an enjoyable activity program, ensuring student happiness, welfare and safety as well as ensuring Select's high standards of customer service are upheld. There are two separate courses that take place at Culford in the summer, Culford Young Learners (Ages 10 – 13) and Culford Teens (Ages 13 – 16). The courses run independently from each other and there are opportunities to work on either.
Activities
You'll run a variety of onsite activities including Disco Nights, T-Shirt Designing, Sculpture Making, Mini Olympics, Casino Nights and many more You'll be expected to:
* Set up necessary equipment and run activities safely
* Energetically lead the activity and making sure everyone is involved
* Work closely as a team with the other activity staff
* Be engaging and enthusiastic with the students
Excursions
You will lead a day trips to various locations across the UK such as London, Bury St Edmunds, Norwich and Cambridge. While doing so, you'll be expected to:
* Lead guided tours and make sure everyone gets home safely
* Be prepared before the day to making sure you know the route and the information for the tour
* Making sure you are on time for any relevant bookings with the group
* Act as a representative of the school to ensure everyone is satisfied with the day
* Be engaging and enthusiastic with the students
Arrivals and Departures
On these days you will be assisting the Course Director (s) with ensuring the students settle in well by giving school tours, showing them their accommodation and running ice-breaker activities on arrival days or, on departures, making sure students are on time for their transfers. Or, you will be assisting the Operations team in either meeting students at the airport and assisting with their transfer to Cambridge. On departure days, you will supervise students at the airports and help them check-in for their flights to make sure they get back to their home country safely Also, prior to the final departure day, the Senior Social Organiser (s) and Course Director (s) will oversee the successful takedown and inventory of the course.
Pastoral Care
All staff are responsible for the pastoral care of the students on the course. These include, but are not limited to, ensuring all risk assessments are complete, keeping attendance records, ensuring welfare and discipline on activities and excursions, fire drills, and attending staff briefings. Additionally, as this is a Residential course, Social Organisers have pastoral duties including supervising meal times, meal sign-ins, bedtimes, general supervision and may need to deal with emergencies/problems as and when necessary.

Under 21 – £525 per week
21 and over – £614.4 per week
* Holiday pay – Approx. 12% will be added to your salary
* Working Hours - Up to 48 hours per week based on 6 working days
* Accommodation offset – Accommodation and meals provided throughout your contract. For residential positions a charge of £77.7 per week is deducted from your pay
* Pre-joining Training Dates - Staff are required to attend 3 x paid training days in advance of joining any program
