 
        
        SailGP Technologies, located in Southampton, UK, seeks a dynamic and motivated Manual Machinist/Fabricator/Welder to join our high-performance team. The role involves fabricating and machining components for the state‑of‑the‑art F50 foiling catamarans and providing on‑site support from a fully equipped mobile workshop at event locations worldwide. Extensive and frequent travel throughout the season is required.
Our UK facility boasts a brand new machine shop featuring three Mazak CNC machines, a CMS ARES 5‑axis machining center, a manual lathe, a manual milling machine and TIG welding capabilities.
Responsibilities
 * Attend and manage the mobile machine shop at global events.
 * Fabricate and machine components required for the SailGP league, producing steel, stainless steel, aluminium and titanium parts.
 * Provide general engineering and mechanical assistance at events.
 * Maintain job‑list orientation during regattas.
 * Ensure technical aspects of the F50 remain “one design” across the fleet.
 * Keep part inventories and maintain adequate stock of spares at all times.
 * Overall responsibility for mobile machine shop set‑up and pack‑down, and assist the wider team with tents and containers as required.
 * Assist with launch, retrieval operations and daily on‑water tasks when required.
 * Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
 * Self‑inspect components to ensure 100 % correctness and compliance with standards.
 * Organise consumables for the fabrication area.
 * Perform TIG welding of components.
 * Operate manual lathe and milling machines.
 * Create tooling and fixturing for manual machines.
 * Maintain machine equipment.
Background & Experience
 * Proven experience in precision fabrication and welding.
 * Demonstrated background in marine or high‑performance engineering environments.
 * Hands‑on experience operating manual machining equipment, lathes, mills, etc.
 * Experience with TIG welding (and ideally MIG) to a high quality in multiple materials (steel, aluminum, titanium).
 * Previous involvement in event‑based operations desirable.
 * Strong understanding of mechanical systems and assemblies, with the ability to repair precision components under time pressure.
 * Understanding of tolerance and precision measurements.
 * Ability to interpret detailed instructions and engineering drawings.
 * Good problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills, especially in a high‑pressure event environment.
 * Highly organised with excellent time‑management skills.
 * Experience in conventional and CNC machining is an advantage.
