Job description
We are currently looking for a full time lifeguard on a temporary basis to join our team in Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, this role is 37hrs per week on a 3 week rota to cover mornings, evenings and weekend shifts.
Main Purpose of Post
1. To undertake Pool Lifeguarding duties along with a range of recreation attendant duties including monitoring, cleaning, supervision and control of members of the public which contribute to a safe, positive and professional environment within leisure services.
2. The post holder will be required to positively support management and colleagues and assist in the provision of a safe, customer focused service ensuring Health and Safety regulations and standard operating procedures are adhered at all times.
3. Positively support management and colleagues and assist in the provision of customer focused service delivery.
4. In order to respond to service priorities and to facilitate professional development, be flexible to provide cover in any related duty within Sport and Wellbeing (for which training has been or will be provided) and be required to work flexibly across the Council area.
5. Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements.
6. Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
7. Undertake lifeguarding duties associated with Leisure Centre swimming pools, ensure all required and relevant qualifications are maintained and up to date.
8. In accordance with Leisure Centres procedures, supervise all wet and dry activity areas including sports halls, fitness suite, health suite, play areas, changing and auxiliary areas to ensure that the facilities operate safely and efficiently.
9. Enforce all Health and Safety regulations and Emergency Operating procedures which impact on customers, including implementation of all evacuation procedures.
10. Ensure that Council policies and procedures relating to child protection and vulnerable adults are adhered to at all times.
11. Administration of first aid, recording and reporting of all accidents/incidents to the Duty Officer/Line Manager. This may include use of an automated external defibrillator if required in a medical emergency.
12. Carry out pool and spa pool water quality analysis using the comparator method of testing (PH and chlorine). Inform Line Manager/ Leisure Facilities Maintenance Officer if results are outside agreed chemical parameters so that corrective water treatment actions can be taken.
13. Prepare, erect and dismantle all equipment safely as required. Utilise, erect or move specialised equipment.
14. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene within the building and all exterior areas within the facility boundary using appropriate protective clothing, machines, equipment and selected cleaning materials/chemicals and document accordingly.
15. Assist with stock control and operation of the Leisure Centres vending machines and servery counters, where applicable, including, but not limited to, cash handling and removal from resources such as hairdryers, lockers etc.
16. Assist with any training or coaching courses as and when required. Carry out one-to-one training of new attendants/Lifeguards as allocated by the Line Manager to include normal operating procedures, emergency action plans, erection and dismantling of equipment etc., ensuring all Health & Safety issues are addressed.
17. Report any defects or damage to equipment or premises to Line Manager.
18. Attend regular external and in-house training to keep abreast of new developments and to ensure skills are up-to-date and in compliance with job requirements and national occupational standards.
19. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of any applicable quality awards, accreditations, initiatives and corporate policies/initiatives.
20. Promote positive communication with customers, members of the public, visitors, private organisations and other Statutory bodies who have contact with Council.
21. Develop strong, positive working relationships with management, colleagues and Councillors and other departments/functions.
Personal Specification
22. Current NPLQ certificate
23. A minimum of six months experience working with the public in a service industry
Knowledge
24. Industry trends and industry best practice within fitness/leisure industry.
25. Administration policy/procedures (eg Data Protection/ Records management).
26. Health and Safety procedures relevant to the fitness industry
Successful applicants must be willing to complete an Access NI for role
