Join Our New Habitations Team – Be Part of the Change
We’re now recruiting for a Habitation Surveyor – a keen-eyed assessor who will identify risks early, work closely with technicians, and ensure nothing is missed.
We’re building a new proactive Habitations Team to tackle housing hazards early, effectively, and collaboratively. As part of our commitment to Awaab’s Law, this team will take preventative action to ensure no customer lives in unsafe or unhealthy conditions. From identifying damp and mould to responding quickly to concerns, we’re fixing issues at the source—before they escalate.
The Role
You’ll carry out inspections across our housing stock, diagnosing defects and ensuring Halton Housing meets its obligations under the Homes (Fitness for Habitation) Act 2018.
Your role is critical to protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of customers, colleagues, and the public.
Key responsibilities include:
* Carrying out surveys and defect inspections, with a focus on damp and mould diagnostics.
* Responding to customers in a timely, professional manner to build trust and protect our reputation.
* Recommending effective solutions to resolve repairs at the earliest opportunity.
* Managing your own workload, liaising with colleagues, customers, and contractors to achieve positive outcomes.
* Reviewing and improving how we monitor and report defects, contributing to long-term asset management strategies.
* Keeping up to date with building regulations, technical developments, and best practice.
* Conducting progress and post-inspections to ensure value for money and continuous service improvement.
This role involves extensive travel within the borough, so a full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
What We’re Looking For:
You’ll bring the technical expertise, and the customer focus needed to make a real impact.
Essential skills & experience:
* A qualification in Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
* Strong understanding of the Fitness for Habitation Act 2018 and relevant building legislation.
* Knowledge of property maintenance, disrepair claims, and associated regulations.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and mobile working systems (e.g., Aareon).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
Personal qualities:
✔ Care deeply about customers’ wellbeing
✔ Work collaboratively and communicate effectively
✔ Take pride in getting things right first time
✔ Are proactive, practical, and solution-focused
✔ Want to make a lasting social impact
Why Join Us?
* Be part of a new, forward-thinking team tackling housing issues head-on.
