About your team: At British Gas, our mission is to sell and mend energy. We’ve been powering UK homes and businesses for over 200 years. Position: Experienced Social Worker
Location: Homebased
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time or part-time, generally Monday to Friday, 9-5. We support flexible working arrangements, allowing you to work from home or at an office.

About your role: This is a new opportunity to join British Gas Energy as a Social Worker. You will be part of our newly formed Vulnerable Customer Centre of Excellence, supporting at-risk individuals across the UK. You’ll help develop frameworks and strategies to identify and assist vulnerable customers, guiding our frontline teams to provide tailored support with compassion and access to resources.
Your key duties include:
* Identifying vulnerable customers facing financial hardship, health issues, or other vulnerabilities and developing appropriate interventions.
* Providing support and resources, such as financial assistance, energy efficiency advice, and other support programs.
* Assisting in crisis situations, coordinating emergency support for health, wellbeing, mental health, or disconnection issues.
* Educating customers and solvers about their rights, available support, and ways to lower energy costs.
* Collaborating industry-wide to develop accessible and effective support programs.
* Addressing mental health issues related to financial stress or energy insecurity, and connecting customers with mental health services.
What we’re looking for: An experienced, compassionate Social Worker with a solutions-focused approach and a genuine desire to make a difference. You should have a proven track record in delivering high-quality social work, demonstrating empathy, clarity, and calmness in communication. Confidence in handling sensitive conversations and navigating digital systems is essential. We welcome applications from qualified Social Workers who align with our values, prioritize customer service, and are eager to promote our products and services to help customers remain safe and independent at home. Experience in the energy or banking sectors is advantageous but not mandatory.
