Student Engagement Mentor Location: South Shields Working hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm (Monday to Friday) Temporary, long term, immediate start Leader Education are looking for a motivated, resilient, and compassionate Student Engagement Mentor to join a dedicated and supportive team within a specialist SEMH setting. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with learning. About the School This school is a specialist secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) supporting students who are currently unable to access mainstream education. Pupils may have experienced permanent exclusion or be at risk of exclusion, be facing anxiety or personal challenges impacting attendance, or be new to the area with identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The school’s mission is to re-engage students with education, rebuild confidence, and help them move forward with purpose and aspiration. Your Role As a Student Engagement Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and emotionally, helping them develop the skills and resilience they need to thrive. Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs Support students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies Deliver and assist with personalised interventions and engagement activities Build strong, positive relationships that help students feel safe and supported Encourage active participation in lessons and school life Calmly manage and de-escalate challenging situations when required Monitor and track student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and support professionals to provide meaningful support to students with social, emotional and behavioural needs, playing a key role in creating a positive, supportive environment where every student has the chance to succeed.
