Salary: £400 Per Day
Hours: 37 Hours
Working Schedule: Monday to Friday

Job Purpose: The post holder’s main responsibilities will be those of a housing solicitor, assisting a solicitor in relation to housing and civil litigation, where required. The role includes giving advice in relation to technical areas of law, policy, governance, and the Council’s functions; specifically in respect of housing law; and with judicial reviews; conducting litigation; and, where necessary and appropriate, appearing as advocate for the Council in Court and at tribunals, hearings, and inquiries. Other responsibilities will relate to other work carried out by the Litigation Team, including civil litigation.
Job Specific Requirements
* To support and advise the Housing Directorate with respect to litigation, including judicial reviews.
* To attend and advise committees, sub-committees, and other groups and panels of the Council as instructed by the Director of Governance and Legal, with appropriate training provided.
* Provide general legal advice to Members of the Council, Officers, and associated bodies, companies, and organizations as instructed by the Director of Governance and Legal.
* Implement or secure the implementation of Council decisions relating to legal matters as allocated by the Director of Governance and Legal or relevant Operational Manager.
* Conduct litigation on behalf of the Council when required, acting as the Council’s advocate before Courts, inquiries, hearings, and tribunals, including contested hearings.
* Prepare matters and papers for legal or quasi-legal proceedings and undertake statutory or administrative tasks required by Legal Services.
* Deal with disputes and complaints.
* Keep abreast of developments in the law and advise the Council on relevant legal matters.
* Assist in providing a comprehensive legal service to the Council and support senior and junior staff on legal issues.
