Role
What is the role we are looking for? We have a great opportunity for a highly motivated Category Manager to lead and grow our Sundries Category. In this role you will be developing and implementing new strategies to maximise opportunities to grow sales, increase margins and improve stock turn, playing a vital part in helping to shape the future of category management and buying and support the business as we grow. You will spend time in our branches to really understand our business and customers, listening to and learning from our experienced branch teams. Working closely with the Commercial Trading Director and our wider Commercial teams, you will lead and define the strategic direction of our Sundries category. Using a strong understanding of customer demand and commercial operations, you will develop and deliver innovative, data driven plans that meet agreed targets and play a key role in achieving our overall Company goals. This is a critical role within our business, requiring confident communication at all levels, both internally with stakeholders and with external suppliers. Drawing on your Category Management or buying experience, you will rapidly build credibility, confidently influence others, and drive clear understanding and commitment.
What are we looking for in a Category Manager?
* Previous Category Management or buying experience with multi-site B2C retailers or B2B merchants and experience in specialist categories
* Previous experience building and reviewing customer proposition, product, range and price architecture to develop category and brand strategies, including own brand, pricing & promotional strategies and drive differentiation & innovation
* Experience managing pricing architecture, making best use of internal discount groups and customer terms opportunities
* Understanding customer needs, getting regular feedback through formal forums and informal branch visits
* Flexibility to work from our Head Office, Albany House in Eastbourne on average 2 days a week, normally Monday & Tuesday (work from home on the remainder) with the ability to travel within the UK and internationally to visit stores and meet with suppliers
