This role is about supporting the team overseeing the commercial governance of our contracts with key consultancies and contractors – a vital element of our projects’ success and our ability to maximise returns on our budget and demonstrate value for money. You will also help set up and manage pathfinder programmes that embed best practice and develop long‑term collaborative partnership arrangements that deliver for both of us, and society.
The Commercial Assurance and Framework Management Team provides country‑wide support to our Integrated Delivery Management teams and wider Project Management community, championing effective governance and commercial assurance. You will quickly develop excellent relationships internally and externally and become an expert on contractual and commercial interpretations within a high‑performing team.
Everyone who joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. The incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. You will be an integrated part of our national team and will support your local delivery hub leadership ensuring we deliver the most sustainable outcomes on our delivery programmes.
Responsibilities
* Support the commercial governance of contracts with key consultancies and contractors.
* Help set up and manage pathfinder programmes embedding best practice and developing long‑term collaborative partnership arrangements.
* Assume commercial assurance role and support Integrated Delivery Management teams and wider Project Management community.
* Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
* Act as subject‑matter expert on contractual and commercial interpretations.
* Undertake required training and incident response duties.
Qualifications & skills
* Essential education/skills/behaviours: A‑Level Qualifications or equivalent.
* Skilled communicator with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
* Stakeholder management experience.
* Strong data and document management skills.
* Commercial acumen – ability to understand and analyse business situations and deliver value for money.
* Administrative skills – strong organisation, minute writing and report drafting.
* Willingness to pursue professional qualifications and training (e.g., NEC, CIPS).
* Interest in infrastructure, construction or environmental programmes.
* Desired: Degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience.
* Working towards status with recognised professional bodies (ICE, CIWEM, APM, CIPS, RICS).
* Formal training in contract management (e.g., NEC, Contract Management Capability Programme).
