The Synnovis Cancer Genetics laboratory at Guy’s Hospital is part of the South East Genomics Laboratory Hub (SEGLH) and is the designated provider of adult solid tumour testing for the entire SEGLH region. We are currently expanding and transforming our service to ensure equitable access to the NHSE National Genomic Test Directory for Cancer.
We have two maternity cover positions available, each with a different contract end date: one ending on 30th June 2026, and the other on 28th August 2026.
Your primary responsibilities will include providing analytical support within the cancer team for haemato-oncology and solid tumour referrals.
Applicants must possess a solid knowledge of laboratory genetics and experience working within a cancer genetic team, along with an in-depth understanding of cancer genomics.
Excellent communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with staff within Cancer Genetics at Guy’s Hospital and the wider SEGLH team.
The Synnovis Genetics Laboratory at Guy’s serves as the hub for the SEGLH Network, led by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). The Cancer Genetics team comprises approximately 50 staff members across administrative, scientific, and technical roles in cytogenetic and molecular genetic laboratories. The service covers a broad spectrum of adult solid tumours and haematological malignancies, providing diagnostic and prognostic information to inform treatment decisions. It also includes a nationally and internationally recognized acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring service, with close links to the King’s College NIHR clinical trials AML MRD unit. Staff have access to a weekly seminar series and a monthly GLH-wide journal club to support learning and continuous professional development (CPD).
