Overview
Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Youth Offending (Band 6). This role is with Dorset Combined Youth Justice Service and focuses on the relationship between speech, language and communication needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will work at universal, targeted and specialist levels with young people currently accessing the Youth Justice Service, including those at risk of exclusion, their families and schools. You will carry out direct assessment and intervention, develop training for other professionals, and work with colleagues within Youth Justice and the wider professional team to support young people and their families.
You will join a small multidisciplinary health team, comprising SLTs, a Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health nurses, to support the physical, social and emotional health needs of young people. You will contribute to a holistic understanding of a young person\'s strengths and needs and help formulate a support plan. You will also be part of the wider team of Speech & Language Therapists across Dorset, contributing to service development and audit.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high-quality, person-centred approach to care delivery with consideration for safety, privacy and dignity.
* Work with children and young people who have experienced trauma, have social, emotional and/or mental health needs, or present with neurodiversity.
* Deliver specialist care and interventions, assessments, treatments, and manage a caseload as part of the multidisciplinary team.
* Provide specialist advice to others regarding management and care of patients/service users.
* Develop specialist programmes of care for other professionals to deliver and ensure appropriate implementation.
* Plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in various settings.
* Provide supervision, mentorship, training and clinical support to students and practitioners.
This is a fixed-term role; for current NHS service, the position is offered on secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on secondment before applying.
Qualifications and Experience
* Registered practitioner to degree/diploma level with post-registration diploma/short courses or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty.
* Evidence of recent professional development in an up-to-date portfolio.
* Membership of the relevant Professional Body.
* Experience at Practitioner Band 5 level; experience of specialist working; evidence of multi-agency working; knowledge of assessment and therapeutic interventions in the area of specialism; experience developing specialist programmes of care for individuals or groups and providing highly specialist advice.
* Desirable: recent experience in a comparable role.
* Experience delivering education and training in practice.
* Experience of using electronic patient/service user record systems.
* Ability to travel on Trust business (subject to Equality Act and using own vehicle).
UK registration with current professional status is required.
