Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Allergy Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Chest and Allergy service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Our allergy service is the longest established Allergy clinic in the UK. This is a fully comprehensive, nationally commissioned Allergy service. Our dynamic Allergy CNS Team provides outpatient services across the Trust.

Working within our multidisciplinary team the post holder will be expected to deliver nurse-led outpatient clinics, support the food and drug allergy day case services and work alongside the medical and nursing team to deliver our immunotherapy service. This post will work closely with lead nurse for allergy and Allergy consultants within service.

Awareness of the current issues in allergy management is essential in order to provide high quality specialist nursing assessment, evidence-based intervention and self-management support for our patients. Teaching experience is also highly desirable as is the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide high quality nursing care and support for patients and their carers with allergy within ICHNT and in liaison with the multi-disciplinary teams and community respiratory teams.
2. Work within the scope of the service, which includes assessment, diagnostic testing, diagnosis, planning treatment and discharge planning.
3. To enhance skills and educate health care professionals within ICHNT in managing patients with allergic diseases.
4. To act as a resource for patients and families.
5. Participate where appropriate in nursing research and contribute in local and national audit.
6. Participate in annual report of CNS service and outcomes.
7. Active involvement in the development of the service locally and nationally in line with NICE/BTS/BSACI guidance.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

8. NMC Registered Nurse
9. Evidence of Postgraduate study/ Relevant courses/ training in allergy
10. Teaching and assessing qualification- ENB 998 or equivalent or relevant experience
11. Evidence of continuing professional development
12. Excellent level of English language demonstrated through effective written communication skills

Desirable criteria

13. Masters level degree
14. Mentorship course or other teacher training
15. Advanced assessment skills
16. Non-medical prescriber

Experience/ Skills

Essential criteria

17. Significant demonstrable post registration nursing experience and experience with caring for patients with respiratory and allergy conditions
18. Evidence of experience in medicines management and in delivery of nurse-led services
19. Evidence of experience in health education or health promotion with focus on supporting patients with self-management
20. Evidence of applying current research to practice
21. Computer and IT software literate
22. Leadership skills

Desirable criteria

23. Evidence of experience in managing allergy/respiratory conditions in acute and non-acute setting
24. Experience in diagnostic skin prick testing
25. Competent in cannulation
26. Competent in IV administration
27. Intermediate life support training
