Refer a friend scheme About the Role Sugarman Health and Wellbeing is recruiting Care Assistants in Leeds. We are looking for outgoing female support workers who are passionate about making a difference. This role involves supporting a female with a learning disability, who has a visual impairment & is non-communicative but uses Makaton, and Symbols/PECS. A willingness to learn and apply these communication methods is essential. She is a sociable young woman who loves music, watching live music, horse riding, animals, and computers. You will join our team to help support her and enable her to be as independent as possible with mobility, social skills, and development. Key Responsibilities: Provide support with daily living activities, including personal care, administering medications and mobility assistance. Assist in her favourite activities, which include swimming, horse riding, music groups, concerts/live music events, and visiting farms. Assisting around the home with home-related tasks - such as keeping her home tidy, changing sheets, and ironing where needed. Help facilitate social interactions and community engagement. Support communication using speech, Makaton, and Symbols/PECS (Makaton training will be provided). Assist with feeding and ensure all meals are prepared to the correct pureed consistency, following specific dietary needs. Monitor and support emotional and physical well-being, ensuring a positive and structured routine. Who We're Looking For We're looking for individuals who are compassionate, reliable, and committed to delivering high-quality care. Ideally, you will have: Experience in a similar role or supporting individuals with learning disabilities/challenging behaviour/Autism is essential. A kind, patient, and encouraging approach. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to learn Makaton. Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts. Full UK driving licence (manual car) A valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one). Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care) are an advantage. Understanding of or willingness to learn about dysphagia and safe feeding techniques. A love for animals and understanding of the role a support dog plays in emotional well-being.
