Job overview

We are looking for Theatre Support workers to join our amazing team at Royal Preston Hospital. Our Theatre support workers play an essential role in the smooth running of our theatres and help us maintain high quality patient care in an environment which is clean & safe.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our theatre team within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. There will be a rotation of shifts including nights and weekends.

You will be responsible for supporting your team in achieving the highest standards of patient care and as a valued team member you will demonstrate commitment to the role.

Main duties of the job

Theatre support workers are part of our operating team who support the theatre staff. Participate as a member of the circulating team to assist the scrub practitioner during surgery and are reassuring for patients, who may be anxious about going into the operating theatre.

You will need a supportive & flexible approach to service delivery and participate in the movement of clean/dirty instrumentation throughout the theatre complex.

We are looking for a flexible team player with good communication skills and the ability to demonstrate and promote our Trust Values.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Provide good quality personalised care throughout their peri-operative journey in accordance with agreed local and national standards.
2. Assist in the positioning of patients in theatre before surgery and in the recovery area, ensuring that pressure areas are protected adequately and that patient comfort maintained.
3. Handle and store patient specimens safely, complying with Trust policy.
4. Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
5. Proactively engages in the Trust safety agenda.
6. Contribute to maintaining safe, clean and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
7. Communicate and document information in a timely and appropriate manner.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

8. Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills in line with Level 1/Grade D/Grade 3 or above

Desirable criteria

9. Level 2 QCF diploma (Qualification Credit Framework) in healthcare / NVQ level 2
10. GCSE Maths & English grade C or above / Grade 4 - 9 OR Functional skills level 2 numeracy and Functional Skills level 2 literacy skills
11. Basic IT Skills
12. Care certificate/ Clinical skills certificate

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

13. Previous experience of dealing with the public
14. Understanding of the concept and application of confidentiality

Desirable criteria

15. Previous experience of working in a health care or theatre setting.
16. Basic understand of infection control principles.
