Energy Unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
About the Role
Our Energy Networks team within the Energy unit is looking for a Principal Project Manager to lead our energy infrastructure design and energy advisory projects in a growing portfolio. You will support our clients in the transition to decarbonisation in the UK and across Europe as part of the energy transition. This role also involves improving our project management processes and approach, driving both delivery excellence and efficiency in our business.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver Project Management for complex transmission & distribution projects including feasibility, FEED and detailed design.
* Deliver scope within time, quality and cost.
* Build and manage strong relationships with senior client representatives and internal stakeholders.
* Establish effective communication across the multidisciplinary project delivery team.
* Take the lead on problem solving and decision making.
* Control internal and external commercial aspects under the contract arrangements.
* Manage risk to the business and to the client.
* Work effectively on several projects concurrently to meet tight deadlines.
Candidate Specification
* Relevant engineering or project management degree or equivalent experience in project management of energy sector projects.
* Proven success in delivering Transmission or Distribution design projects for a designer, contractor, or major industry client within the energy sector.
* Project Management experience.
* Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience in contract administration, ideally NEC contract forms.
* Knowledge and experience in change management, risk management, schedule and cost management and other aspects of project management.
* Ability to make complex decisions while ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to and taking responsibility for own actions.
* Create a work environment that promotes health, safety, and wellbeing.
* Previous experience in electrical infrastructure projects (Owner’s Engineer, Lender’s Engineer, or similar).
* Experience of CDM 2015 Regulations.
* Appreciation of the commercial sphere of project work including contract terms.
* Ability to adapt and work on multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
* Collaborative skills: the role requires working with cross‑functional teams and people from various backgrounds.
Preferred but Not Essential
* Experience within the Transmission and Distribution sector.
* Experience across all stages of the project lifecycle.
* Relevant PM qualifications (e.g., PMQ, Prince2).
