The Team
The Assay Development Team leads the charge in the development of biomodal’s core products and tools. Working on the exciting multi‑omic duet platform, the team designs experiments to explore novel applications, new formulations and strengthen the stability of the assay.
The Role
We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our molecular biology team on a 9‑month maternity cover contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in a dynamic biotech environment, supporting key workflows in DNA extraction, purification, and Next‑Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation. This is a lab‑focused role, with approximately 75% of your time spent at the bench. You’ll also support general lab operations including stock control and reagent preparation.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform DNA extraction and purification using bead‑based protocols.
* Prepare NGS libraries following validated procedures.
* Assess nucleic acid quality using spectrophotometry, fluorometry, and electrophoresis.
* Prepare bulk reagents and master mixes to support routine workflows.
* Monitor stock levels, manage inventory, and assist with ordering lab supplies.
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to equipment maintenance and lab housekeeping.
The Person
We’re looking for a candidate who:
* Has experience in molecular biology techniques, particularly DNA extraction and purification.
* Is familiar with NGS workflows and library preparation.
* Is detail‑oriented, organized, and able to follow protocols precisely.
* Is comfortable working in a fast‑paced lab environment and collaborating with a wider team.
Due to the fixed term nature and level of this role, we will only consider candidates who are already based in the local area (Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex). Visa sponsorship is not available.
