Position Overview
We are looking for a Specialty Doctor to join our busy, but friendly ENT team, based at Southend.
The ENT Department currently has 6 beds on an adult short stay surgical ward and access to the day stay ward. Up to 12 children's beds are also available to this specialty on the paediatric ward.
Emergency and major head and neck inpatient surgery is centralised at Broomfield Hospital, with a hub‑and‑spoke model. A wide range of ENT surgery, including tympanomastoid surgery, head and neck surgery, rhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery is well‑established. Almost all otological, rhinological and benign head and neck surgeries are carried out at Basildon.
The department’s own outpatient facilities are self‑contained with en‑suite audiology facilities and hearing aid department. The clinic is fully equipped with facilities for fibre‑optic flexible and rigid nasendoscopy. A modern audiology department with its own ERA equipment and dissection facilities for temporal bones is available.
In addition, the department provides an outpatient ENT service at Brentwood Community Hospital and other community‑based clinics in the Basildon area.
Clinical Responsibilities
The duties of the appointee will involve working in outpatient clinics, operating theatre and ward(s). This includes:
* Middle grade on‑call (non‑resident) for the Essex ENT network.
* Clinical responsibility to Consultant ENT Surgeons.
* Undertaking day case/23‑hour stay operating lists, with supervision as deemed necessary.
* Outpatient clinics, usually in conjunction with one of the Consultant ENT Surgeons. Occasional independent outpatient clinics may be required.
* Deputising for absent colleagues in theatres, wards, outpatient clinics and other areas, at a level commensurate with experience and ENT capability.
