Job summary
The Department of Clinical Research at Musgrove Park Hospital are looking to welcome a new Research Nurse/Practitioner/AHP, specialising in the delivery of surgical research, to join their acute research team.
The Acute Research Team is busy We are a team who work together to set-up, deliver and manage numerous studies in various departments including, ED, ENT, ICU, surgery and other acute areas.
If you are interested in research, have experience working in acute surgical settings, motivated, can work autonomously and have great attention to detail then this may be the job for you.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
The role of the Acute Research Nurse/Practitioner is to assist in the management and co-ordination of research projects involving patients, families and carers at Musgrove Park Hospital. This post will involve the safe conduct of research involving both NIHR portfolio studies and industry funded research. The role will involve facilitating the aims of the NIHR at a local level by ensuring that the Trust meets its targets for research delivery.
You will work as an integral part of the Acute Research team co-ordinating, delivering, monitoring and recording the care and progress of patients involved in research studies and clinical trials. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will recruit patients and their families to research, thoroughly supporting patients and their carers during their involvement in the research process.
You will ensure that all elements of clinical trial work is carried out in accordance with UK legal requirements, Trust policies and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and regulatory requirements to provide assurance that the rights, safety and wellbeing of patients are protected.

Registered Healthcare Professional.
Must be able to communicate in English Language, both written and verbally appropriate to the post.

Demonstrable, recent healthcare professional experience in General Surgery
Recent or current extensive experience of the care of patients in an acute setting.

Previous experience of data collection
Previous NHS experience
Additional Criteria
Essential
Ability to evaluate the significance of research.
Able to critically appraise and use validated results to improve practice.
Thorough knowledge and experience of caring for patients with a variety of Surgical conditions.
Ability to carry out physical elements of the post, such as computer work, phlebotomy, transcribing data.
Desirable
Basic knowledge of research methodology.
Knowledge of drug therapies used in General Medicine and Surgery.
