About The Role
Balfour Beatty are looking for a Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to join our M25 Connect Plus Services Team. This role can be based at Dartford, Leatherhead or South Mimms and will include regular travel across the M25 network. A company car will be provided. The Senior HSW Advisor will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety & well‑being risks within the Project. The role will support the organisation’s ambition to be a safe and responsible company regarding our people, supply chain partners and the communities we serve. The Senior HSW Advisor will be required to be present during occasional night construction works.
Connect Plus Services (CPS) brings together the collective strength of our parent companies – Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis Road Operation UK. With around 600 people, based at eight locations across the M25 network, we work on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways to manage the operation of the M25 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from routine maintenance to managing the whole‑life requirement of thousands of assets across the network.
What you’ll be doing
* Provide day‑to‑day management, guidance, support and mentoring to the other HSW advisors.
* Be a visible champion for HSW throughout the project, engaging with operatives and managers.
* Oversee the implementation of organisational standards relating to HSW at a local level, providing feedback to HSW managers on areas for improvement or potential conflict with business requirements.
* Monitor the delivery of the communications strategy to keep HSW on the operational delivery agenda and report back to the HSW managers on the effectiveness of communication.
* Support the delivery of appropriate and adequate HSW training based on project needs.
* Support or undertake targeted inspections of the HSW management system and supply‑chain audits, tracking and supporting actions to close out.
* Manage your own diary and stakeholder communications to plan, schedule and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site and depot‑based teams.
* Prepare and communicate timely reports and presentations detailing performance data on inspection findings, tracking and supporting actions.
* Represent the Health, Safety & Well‑being function and its strategy positively during conference calls and meetings.
* Review work activities against the safety system of work, taking appropriate action and providing documented advice where necessary.
* Support incident investigations, ensuring incidents are dealt with effectively with actions tracked to close out.
Who we’re looking for
Essential
* Membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH).
* Professional qualification in health and safety (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent).
* A current CSCS card.
* A clean, full driving licence.
* Able to maintain a regular night‑time and weekend presence.
* Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms to review data, identify themes and prepare representative graphs.
Desirable
* Prior site‑based construction experience.
* Experience working on a joint venture.
* Prior experience facilitating meetings via digital platforms such as Teams, Zoom, Skype etc.
