Senior Buyer

The Role
* Lead and support a small purchasing team of 2 to 3 direct reports
* Develop and implement purchasing and sourcing strategies for assigned categories
* Manage key supplier relationships, including reviews, site meetings and performance improvement
* Negotiate with suppliers to achieve best value, cost savings and improved commercial terms
* Monitor supplier performance against quality, cost, delivery and service KPIs
* Identify and reduce supply chain risks including single source supply, capacity issues and quality concerns
* Support continuity of supply through contingency planning and dual sourcing where required
* Ensure purchasing schedules, order placement and priorities are managed in line with production requirements
* Resolve supplier, purchasing and supply chain issues, escalating where needed
* Support contract management, supplier agreements and total cost of ownership analysis
* Maintain strong purchasing controls, processes and procedures across the team
* Ensure compliance with internal policies, delegated authority, legal requirements and ethical sourcing standards
* Track savings, support cost control and ensure procurement decisions are commercially robust
* Coach, develop and appraise team members, identifying any training needs
* Provide cover for the Procurement Manager, Senior Buyers and wider team when required
* Work cross-functionally with internal teams to support projects, production and wider business objectives
Key Qualifications
* Proven experience in purchasing, procurement or supply chain within manufacturing or engineering
* Experience leading people, processes or projects within a purchasing team
* Strong supplier negotiation, contract management and cost reduction experience
* Confident managing supplier performance, KPIs and improvement plans
* Good understanding of ERP/MRP systems and purchasing controls
* Strong Excel, Word, Outlook and general MS Office skills
* CIPS Level 4, equivalent qualification or strong relevant purchasing experience
* Experience using ERP systems such as JDE, IBS or similar would be beneficial
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering requirements would be desirableI
* Experience with casting, machining, fabrication or electrical component procurement would be advantageous
* Strong communication, organisation, analytical and stakeholder management skills
* Full UK driving licence
