NHFT is an NHS Community and Mental Health Foundation Trust providing physical, mental health and specialty services in hospital settings and the community. We provide over 200 services across the county and beyond.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated pharmacy technician to support our in‑house medicines supply service.
You will be part of a friendly, innovative and supportive pharmacy team, delivering a high‑quality patient focused clinical pharmacy service to adult, older people’s, child/adolescent, community hospital wards and palliative care.
You will be part of the dispensary team at Berrywood Hospital. You will support the daily workflow to ensure efficient and high‑quality medicines supply service delivery and provide ward level support in Northampton/West Northants locality.
Main duties of the job
Your primary role as a band 5 Pharmacy Technician Dispensary and In‑patient Services will be to support delivery of a clinical and technical pharmacy service to inpatient facilities within NHFT.
Job responsibilities
* Dispense and final check in‑patient and outpatient prescriptions
* Carry out distribution and stock control of medicines
* Act as troubleshooter on a rota basis, resolving medication and prescription issues, coordinating discharges, supporting staff and patients, ensuring efficient pharmacy operations
* Perform activities at ward level including medicines reconciliation, management of medication supply for in‑patients and community patients, removal, disposal and record keeping of unwanted medicines.
* Assess patients' own medicines brought into hospital for potential re‑use
* Inform patients about their medication and provide medication counselling including support for self‑administration
The post-holder will liaise with patients, relatives, medical and nursing staff, third‑party service providers, community pharmacies, GP surgeries, etc.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current registration and membership with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
* Accredited checking pharmacy technician
* Evidence of recent continuing professional learning
Experience
* Post‑qualification experience in the NHS as a pharmacy technician
* Experience liaising with other healthcare professionals
* IT literate with ability to use electronic systems/spreadsheets/databases
* Ward‑based medicines management experience
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
* Counselling patients on multiple medications
* Previous use of SystmOne
* Previous experience or knowledge of hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems
