Relationship Director - Retail & Wholesale
Join us as a Relationship Director within our Large Corporate team, working in the Retail and Wholesale sector at Barclays.
The Retail and Wholesale sector is diverse, including national and international retailers and wholesalers across various sub-sectors such as motor, food and drink, apparel, and household & industrial wholesale. This role involves working alongside a team of Relationship Directors with national coverage, potentially focusing on specific subsectors depending on skills and client needs. The portfolio will mainly consist of clients within this industry.
As a Relationship Director, you will manage a portfolio of large corporate clients, developing income and ensuring high client satisfaction by building deep, multi-stakeholder relationships with existing and new contacts, while managing risks effectively.
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications
* Experience in leading or being part of deal teams delivering client transactions, products, or services.
* Confident in personal and written communication, with the ability to call, meet, and negotiate with clients as the primary contact.
* Good knowledge of corporate banking products and services, including cash management, card payments, trade & working capital, and FX solutions.
* Credit skills and debt finance knowledge, with risk accreditation Level 1 or 2, or the ability to develop these within 12 months.
Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications
* Established account management and business development achievements.
* Debt finance appraisal skills relevant to Corporate Banking.
* Experience in running client events and entertainment with senior stakeholders.
This role is based in London.
Purpose of the role
To establish and nurture profitable partnerships with corporate clients, acting as the bridge between the bank’s offerings and clients’ needs for mutual benefit and long-term success.
Accountabilities
* Manage client relationships, understanding their financial goals, challenges, and risk tolerance, and analyzing data for insights and opportunities.
* Research industry trends, regulations, and competition to inform strategic advice.
* Design tailored solutions using a range of bank products and services.
* Communicate value propositions, justify recommendations, and negotiate beneficial terms.
* Support clients’ financial decisions, risk management, and wealth strategies, keeping them informed on market trends.
* Assess and mitigate financial, legal, and operational risks, documenting all interactions.
* Monitor client satisfaction, revenue, and other metrics to evaluate relationship effectiveness.
* Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and develop growth strategies.
