Deputy Divisional Lead Pharmacist - Surgery & Critical Care

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Deputy Divisional Lead Pharmacist for Surgery and Critical Care. This role provides a developmental pathway for an experienced clinical pharmacist to build advanced clinical and leadership capability within high-acuity surgical and critical care environments. The post holder will work closely with the Divisional Lead Pharmacist to support delivery of a high-quality, safe, and effective pharmacy service across surgery and critical care.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide structured training to give clinical cover to Critical Care, with appropriate senior support.
* Participate in daily multidisciplinary ward rounds (Monday to Friday) and micro‑rounds, contributing to medicines optimisation for critically ill patients.
* Lead governance, education and service‑development activities, supporting progression within the RPS Professional Standards and Advanced Pharmacy Framework.
* Build advanced clinical and leadership capability in high‑acuity surgical and critical care environments.
* Support delivery of a high‑quality, safe, and effective pharmacy service.
Qualifications
* BSc, BPharm or MSc in Pharmacy
* Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Diploma or MSc in hospital clinical pharmacy gained through post‑graduate study OR Certificate or diploma in community pharmacy plus successful 6‑month band 6 probation
Knowledge
* Clinical Pharmacy knowledge associated with a Pharmacy degree course.
* Experience gained through preregistration training
* Experience gained through vocational practice
Experience
* Clinical knowledge from aspects of career to date.
* Significant recent experience of hospital or community pharmacy
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Good organisational skills
* Evidence of commitment to CPD
* Evidence‑based practice
* Teaching experience.
* Experience of extended roles
* Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams
* Experience of providing a specialist pharmacy service of some description
* Practice research.
Contractual
* Flexibility in working hours.
* Able to work extended hours and on call as needed.
