Due to an internal promotion, we are recruiting for a Head of Faculty to lead our Science and Public Sector Services team. This role will include leadership responsibility for our Applewood Nursery provision.
The Head of Faculty plays a crucial role leading and managing the department to ensure the delivery of high‑quality education. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of the curriculum, ensuring it meets and addresses the specific needs of learners, employers, and our local communities. The Head of Faculty collaborates closely with curriculum colleagues to design effective teaching strategies, create engaging learning materials, and continuously assess the curriculum’s effectiveness. By fostering an environment of academic excellence, the Head of Faculty ensures that every learner receives a comprehensive and enriching educational experience, focused on supporting them to achieve their aspirational outcomes.
In addition to managing the curriculum, the Head of Faculty is responsible for supporting and developing their team. This includes a wide range of people‑focused activities, from recruitment to retirement, as well as providing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and staff skills. The Head of Faculty plays a key role in mentoring staff, offering guidance on pedagogical issues, and promoting a collaborative and supportive departmental culture. They are also tasked with managing departmental resources and budgets, ensuring that the faculty has the necessary resources to deliver effective teaching and learning opportunities.
The Head of Faculty also acts as a key liaison between their department and the wider college community. They represent their faculty in meetings with other leaders and governors, contribute to whole‑college initiatives, and collaborate with other departments to support cross‑curricular projects enhancing the overall educational environment. By engaging with parents and carers, learners, and external stakeholders, the Head of Faculty ensures that the department’s achievements are recognised and that any potential issues are addressed promptly. Through these responsibilities, the Head of Faculty contributes significantly to the academic success of their department and the overall mission of the College of West Anglia.
