What is a Senior Distribution Operator?
The Senior Distribution Operator – Distribution System Operations oversees the 24x7 operation of the gas and electric distribution systems at our Lake Katrine Primary Control Center. The position directs the continual operations of the electric and gas distribution systems by monitoring and impacting the performance of on shift personnel. The Senior Distribution Operator will have a crucial role in the development, testing and implementation of the ADMS system.
What does a Senior Distribution Operator do?
8. Effectively oversees the safe and reliable operation of the gas and electric distribution systems; working in conjunction with field supervision, monitors and raises the overall performance, efficiency, and productivity of personnel during business hours and after-hours
9. Actively works on the development, testing and implementation of ADMS
10. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training necessary to establish centralized Distribution System Operations
11. Establishes and maintains communication channels with the various operating divisions
12. Supervises union employees within the control room
13. Maintains a high level of proficiency in tools such as ADMS, MWM, OMS, ARCOS, and other related systems
14. Prioritizes all work associated with the Electric Distribution System
15. Keeps informed of industry best practices regarding Distribution System Operations
16. Provides assistance during major electric and gas emergency events
17. Continually seeks out new process improvements for Distribution System Operations to enhance operational performance and productivity
18. This is a rotating shift position
What does it take to be a Senior Distribution Operator?
Required:
19. Associate’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Science, or other technology related field with 1+ year of experience in control room operations, gas/electric utility experience, system protection, military technical or nuclear training. In lieu of an associate’s degree, candidates with a high school diploma or equivalency degree and 3+ years of experience in the areas listed above will be considered
20. Strong investigative and documentation skills; well-developed communication skills with a high attention to detail
21. Proficiency with computers and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, EMS/SCADA, Transmission Outage application, etc.)
22. Must be willing and available to work rotating shifts and successfully complete a personal risk assessment
23. Ability to prioritize tasks and perform duties effectively under emergency situations
24. Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
25. 1+ year of supervisory experience
26. Strong working knowledge of gas and electric distribution system operations
